Armand William Forstall, S.J. papers, 1880-1948 [manuscript]

The papers of Armand William Forstall, S.J., reflect his training for the Jesuit order in the late 1880s and his professional life as a teacher of mathematics, physics, and chemistry from 1885 to 1946. Many of his notebooks as a seminary student and as a teacher are in French or Latin until 1904, after which they are written in English. Information about his family or childhood in France comes from a few letters and newspaper clippings. In 1909, the first seismograph was installed in Colorado at Regis University, Denver. Fr. Forstall was the Director of the Seismic Station until 1934. The collection includes correspondence from seismologists around the world sending him data from their machines, as well as correspondence for a patented machine he designed to turn fabric. Also included are his collection of articles on radium and other scientific topics of the early 1900s.
